From the Principal…

Hello Bluff Creek Families!

The month of January is flying by and I find myself stopping to reflect on how things are going at Bluff Creek at almost the mid-way point of the year. There are some areas that I will be committing energy to working on that I would like to share with parents:

We will have a brief training session.

  • Student technology use challenges- cell phones. A number of our 4th and 5th graders have cellphones. Texting is a very private way for students to contact each other, but when the texts become unfriendly and impact school, Mrs. Best and I become involved. Some of our students also use Instagram and Facebook. These applications are not meant to be used by students under the age of 13. We are concerned about the access other adults have to our students when they use these applications. We are currently looking into a Parent Internet Safety program.
  • Standards based learning and grading continue to be a subject that we will share more information about with parents. How we teach is driven by how we plan to assess the standards that drive our instruction. Look for another opportunity to hear about Standards Based Learning in the near future.

It’s time to enroll in Kindergarten! Whether it’s all-day Kindergarten or La Academia Kindergarten, Eastern Carver County Schools offers options to fit your child’s needs.  If you haven’t already registered, learn more about Kindergarten and register online HEREKindergarten registration is due on January 16th.

Please take time to think about how this school year is going for your children. Would a conversation with the classroom teacher help you to understand their strengths and needs? Spring conferences take place on Thursday, February 22nd from 3:30-7:30 and Tuesday, February 27th from 3:30-7:30, but you do not need to wait until conferences to make contact with your child’s teachers.

There is no school for students on Monday, January 15th and Monday January 22nd.

Have a wonderful long weekend!
