From the Principal…
Happy New Year Bluff Creek Families!
We have had a great start to this new year! We have started Fast Bridge assessments in reading and math with our Kindergarten students and some of our students in grades 1-5 are taking the NWEA MAP test. Teachers in grades 1-5 will also start the BAS (Benchmark Assessment System) reading assessment which is administered three times a year. This assessment is given one to one and requires your child to read orally and answer comprehension questions. It is a very useful tool that identifies the instructional reading level of your student.
Cold and flu season has arrived! At Bluff Creek we have been emphasizing frequent and effective handwashing as a healthy habit that will assist in preventing the spread of germs. Here is what we have been instructing our students to do when washing their hands:
- Wet your hands with clean water
- Apply soap
- Rub your hands together vigorously and scrub all surfaces
- Scrub for 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice)
- Rinse with clean water
- Dry hands briskly
Note: If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub (wipes or gel).
If your child is ill- vomiting, has diarrhea or has a fever, we ask that you keep them home for 24 hours after the symptoms have subsided. When children come to school ill they expose others to germs, are often tired and uncomfortable-even in the nurse’s office and are unable to participate in learning experiences. Please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Cowles if your child is diagnosed with Influenza. Our goal is to help keep everyone as healthy as possible during this cold and flu season. If you child will be absent please call the Nurse/ Attendance Line -952-556-6619.
Are you interested in how BCE prepares to keep all of our students and staff safe? If you are, please consider attending our Ed Issues meeting on Monday, January 13th from 6- 7:00 p.m.
Have a wonderful long weekend!
