From the Principal

Hello Bluff Creek Families!

We are well on our way to a busy February with our I Love to Read and Black History Month activities. The weather has been really great for February in Minnesota and I would like to encourage parents to support our efforts to keep students active with outdoor recess. We strongly encourage our students to go outside for recess whenever possible, unless we have a doctor’s note excusing them from recess. We believe it is healthiest for students to get fresh air and sunshine (Vitamin D is essential, and obtaining it from the outdoors is best).

Please remember that we have a late start on Thursday, February 13th– which means your child will come to school 2 hours later that their usual start time, but will return home at their usual time.

Valentine’s Day is Friday, February 14th and we realize this is a time of year with a lot of candy and treats either through classroom parties or at some grade levels with student provided valentines for classmates.  Please remember that our new wellness policy #513 states that any foods sold or given to students during the school day must meet the USDA Smart Snacks requirements. I am sharing this communication with parents regarding this policy so you know that if students do bring in candy to give to Valentines, they will be packaged up and sent home, and not eaten at school.  There are many cute ideas that offer the same Valentine’s messaging without the candy- pencils, trinkets or simply a Valentine’s Day card. Please keep this district policy in mind as you plan for next week.

There is no school on Monday, February 17th– President’s Day weekend is February 15, 16 and 17.

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming! Our conference dates are Tuesday, February 18th and Thursday, February 27th from 3:30-7:30 p.m.

Have a great weekend!
