From the Principal…

Hello Bluff Creek Families!

We are nearing the end of our first week back from distance learning for Kindergarten through second graders. Although a very short week, most of our staff would agree that our students have been excited about returning to school and students are settling into the daily routines with great success!

I have been asked by our Nutrition Services department to inform parents that meals, both in person and distance learning meal kits, will be free to ALL students through the rest of the school year.  This includes both breakfast and lunch.  We encourage parents to keep a positive balance in their student's accounts to purchase extra entrees, milk, and a la carte items.

Coming to and from school is one area that needs a little improvement. Parents, please remind your children to continue to wear their masks on the school bus. Although our bus drivers will be watching for appropriate mask wearing, they will not be able to monitor mask wearing while they drive.  For our students that are driven to school, please remember to follow our drop off and pick up procedures. We will be dismissing students at 3:00 p.m.

Fastbridge testing for our Kindergarten and first grade students begins next week.  The FastBridge system is a set of assessments that teachers use to measure student learning in math and reading. FastBridge scores help teachers to know what kind of teaching each student needs. For each grade level there are benchmark scores that help us to determine student achievement up to this point. At the Kindergarten and first grade levels this assessment is administered 1:1 by either your child’s classroom teacher or a member of our assessment team. We plan to assess Kindergarten and first graders in both math and reading during the week of January 26th. Our students in grades 2-5 will take the Fastbridge assessment when they return.

Please look for an invitation to a virtual Parent Teacher conference which should reach you sometime in the next week or so. These late winter conferences are 15 minutes long and are a virtual way to check in with your child’s teacher about their progress.

This truly is a “magical new start” for our students, thank you for your support.

Warmly,

 Joan MacDonald

Principal
